For families of older teens and young adults who are struggling to launch into independence, traditional weekly therapy often isn't enough. That's the gap Debbie Murad, LCSW, built Beach Cities Gateway to fill.
Meet the Practice
After more than 30 years as a clinical social worker, Debbie recognized a growing gap in services for older adolescents and young adults. Traditional weekly therapy often wasn't enough for individuals struggling with executive functioning, social connection, anxiety, emotional regulation, or the transition into adulthood — families were looking for support that extended beyond the therapy office and into real life.
As both a clinician and the parent of a neurodivergent young adult, Debbie understands these challenges from both a professional and personal perspective. She founded Beach Cities Gateway to provide individualized, relationship-based support that helps young people build confidence, independence, and meaningful lives, while supporting the entire family through the process. Today, she leads a team of therapists, life coaches, and mentors who each bring their own specialty to that mission.
Who They Help
Beach Cities Gateway primarily works with older adolescents and young adults, approximately ages 15 and up, who are navigating the transition to adulthood. Many clients are neurodivergent, including individuals with autism and ADHD, while others experience anxiety, depression, executive functioning challenges, social difficulties, trauma, or substance use concerns.
Their greatest expertise is helping individuals build the practical skills and confidence needed to become more independent, while supporting families through this important stage of development.
How They Work
The team believes growth happens where life happens. While therapy is an important part of healing, lasting change often occurs through real-world experiences and trusted relationships.
Their neuro-affirming approach integrates therapy, coaching, mentoring, community experiences, and family support into one highly individualized program. Sessions take place in the office, in clients' homes, in the community, and in educational or vocational settings, helping clients practice skills where they'll actually use them. Rather than focusing on "fixing" someone, the team builds on strengths while supporting executive functioning, emotional wellness, social confidence, independent living, education, and employment.
A first appointment begins with a psychological assessment and a coaching assessment, and is primarily about listening — understanding the whole person, not just the diagnosis or current challenges. By the end of the process, the team begins developing a personalized plan that reflects the individual's needs rather than trying to fit them into a predetermined program.
Beach Cities Gateway also offers community-based social groups and parent support groups, because they believe families deserve encouragement, education, and community as they navigate this journey alongside their child.
Making It Accessible
Beach Cities Gateway is located in Rolling Hills Estates, serving the Palos Verdes and South Bay Los Angeles area, with services offered in-office, in-home, and in the community.
In Her Own Words
"I hope families discover that they are not alone, that there are professionals who genuinely understand their journey, and that there is hope. I want them to know they have found a place where they will be heard, respected, and supported."
